Accountability

Those in leadership owe a debt to those we serve- the membership. You place your trust in leaders through your vote and in return we have to earn and retain that trust. This includes bargaining contracts, being a good steward of your dues monies and presenting a positive image of the UAW to the outside.

Former first lady and friend to Walter Reuther, Eleanor Roosevelt stated “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves… and the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” Every day your leadership is faced with making choices that impact you and your family.

You can’t take credit for the things that go well and deflect responsibility when things don’t go well. Your leadership should own their mistakes and learn from them. Are there things I wish had gone differently over the past four years? Of course there are. You take the information you have and make the best decision you can for those you represent.

I have a great team at the GM Department that I lean on, but at the end of the day the responsibility rests with me. I have made votes at the IEB that weren’t always popular,  but it was the ethical and proper way to vote. I cast votes with your best interest at heart. I will continue to do that because I am accountable to those who placed me in this position.

I am very proud of the UAW and I will continue to fight for the best interests of our UAW Membership!
