Securing the Future
During the 2023 national contract talks, we were successful in securing commitment for new product allocation for many of our locations. The addition of the Blazer at Spring Hill, Equinox at Fairfax, new truck production for Lake Orion and product commitment at Lansing Grand River, all represent new life for our locations.
The automotive industry is cyclical, with platforms having a certain life cycle. While new contracts are bargained every four years, the process of bargaining is a never-ending process. Teams constantly work on implementing the current contract, preparing for the next round and securing investment for the future.
Investment for location improvement is the lifeblood that keeps a location healthy. Last year, the UAW GM Department received a commitment for 16 billion in investments. These victories are made from a team effort. Similar commitments have been made at Ford and Stellantis.
These bargaining wins keep our locations healthy and our membership secure. It takes a team to accomplish this and no one person can do it by themselves. I am fortunate to have a great team with the 2023 UAW-GM Top Committee and Local Union Leadership working with UAW GM Department to defend and protect our members.
Never forget, it takes each and every one working together to build and sustain the future. Solidarity secures the future, provides for our families and builds an industry that will be there for future generations of UAW members.
In Solidarity,
Mike
